JANUARY 12, LONDON: BAFTA today unveiled the shortlists for the EE British Academy Film Awards in 2022.
This preselection round was introduced in 2021 for the EE British Academy Film Awards, resulting in three rounds of voting. The publication of the long lists follows the BAFTA 2020 review, in which more than 120 wide-ranging changes were introduced to voting, membership and campaigning.
The first round of voting, which ran from December 10, 2021 to January 4, 2022, produced the long lists in all categories announced today.
Each category in this round was voted on by a Craft Chapter, Opt-in Chapter, or Jury, with the exception of Best Picture which was voted on by all voting members of the film.
BAFTA Film Committee Chair Anna Higgs said: “2021 continued to be a difficult year for many, including the film industry with cinemas in the UK remaining closed until May of last year and shoots continually adapting to restrictions. Throughout the current uncertainty, BAFTA has remained committed to making pricing fairer for attendees, celebrating excellence and supporting a more inclusive industry.
“We are delighted to announce this year’s long list: such an exciting lineup of films, different genres and incredible performances recognized is a true testament to the strength, ingenuity and resilience of our teams, talents. and filmmakers. ”
BAFTA President Krishnendu Majumdar said: “The breadth of films and recognized talent in the long list announced today shows the enduring creativity and resilience of the film industry amid more challenges and uncertainty over the past year. At the same time, BAFTA has made significant changes to our rules and voting processes to level the playing field for all film award nominations and, most importantly, to ensure that more titles are watched by more voters. . While nothing beats the theatrical experience of watching a movie on the big screen, this year all titles were made available to members on BAFTA View who saw voters watch more movies on average than in previous years as well. that a significant increase in the number of total film views, with over 134,000 streams already before the start of the second round of voting. This is a positive step in our work to promote and enable a more inclusive, accessible and sustainable industry and I am encouraged by the support of our members in the changes we have made and look forward to hearing about the appointments. for the EE British Academy Film Awards on February 3.

The chapters are made up of a minimum of 100 BAFTA members who have specialized knowledge in the trade concerned. Members are also invited each year to register for a maximum of three feature film chapters, including Outstanding British Film, Documentary, Non-English Film and Animated Film, as well as the UK Short Film and the British animated short film.
The juries are made up of industry experts, with each jury composed of BAFTA members from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, gender, location and age groups.

The third round voting will take place from Wednesday 9 February and will determine the winners, who will be announced at the EE British Academy Film Awards on Sunday 13 March. Nominations for the EE Rising Star Award will be announced on Tuesday, February 1.
All eligible films were made available on BAFTA View, BAFTA’s online viewing platform. Voting members were able to access all registered movies, allowing them to watch as many movies as possible at a much earlier stage in the process than in previous years, and there have been over 134,000 streams to date.
In the first round of voting, all members voting for the films were allocated a randomly selected sample of 15 recommended films before voting. This ensured that all of the films entered were individually viewed hundreds of times and encouraged voting members to consider a wider range of films.
