Nelson Dilipkumar, whose ‘Doctor’ became a blockbuster and who currently helms Vijay’s starring ‘Beast’, will next direct superstar Rajinikanth’s 169th film.
Making an official announcement on Thursday, Sun Pictures, the film’s producing company, tweeted, “Featuring superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Thalaivar169’ directed by Nelson Dilpkumar and music by Anirudh.”
Nelson also tweeted about the project.
He said, “I feel thrilled to announce my upcoming movie starring legendary superstar Rajinikanth sir. Glad to have partnered with Sun Pictures and my very dear friend Anirudh again!”

Rumors circulating in the industry suggest that Nelson was invited by Rajinikanth just as the “Beast” team was celebrating the 100th day.
During their discussions, it is believed that Nelson gave a funny one-liner to Rajini. The superstar is said to have liked the one-liner and that’s how the project seems to have come together.
