The pandemic has already proven how badly it has affected the film industry and it looks like the new Omicron variant poses a major threat to box office collections. With the release of several big-budget projects slated for the coming weeks, newly imposed COVID restrictions in metropolitan cities are becoming a source of concern for producers. The magnum opus RRR appears to be the latest film to face the heat and consider other options for a good living.

For those unknown, the upcoming action-drama film is slated for release on January 7, 2022. The film stars Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead role along with acclaimed Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt. It was directed by SS Rajamouli who has a reputation for creating a larger than life cinematic experience with classics like Baahubali.

According to a recent report from IWMBuzz, the film could take a hybrid route by releasing the film in theaters while simultaneously depositing it on the OTT platform. However, the film will follow the Pay Per View system where people have to pay a certain amount to watch it at home. Tickets would cost between 400 and 700.

An IWMBuzz source close to the development revealed, “With the current situation in view, it doesn’t seem like a lot of choice. With the nighttime curfew imposed on Maharashtra, Delhi and several other states, cinema is once again hit hard, very hard. The failure to execute Kabir Khan’s 83 rocked the Hindi film industry. RRR is the hardest hit ”.

Previously, Salman Khan’s Radhe had taken the hybrid route and the collections were disappointing to say the least. Ananya Panday star Kaali Peeli had also taken the PPV option but success was limited as the concept was quite fresh at the time.
