Acclaimed actor Jeff Daniel Phillips has spoken about playing Herman in the Rob Zombie-directed film “The Munsters” and being part of the digital age.

From Rob Zombie comes the strangest love story ever told as Herman and Lily’s crazy courtship takes “The Munsters” on a spellbinding and hilarious journey from Transylvania to Hollywood.

On being part of ‘The Munsters’ experience, Phillips said: “Making any film during the pandemic has encountered so many challenges and obstacles, but we have managed to do it with our small group of artists. and producers because we believed in the filmmaker and loved our source material.

“Rob Zombie has been trying to make this movie for 20 years and we all wanted nothing more than to help him make it and honor the show we all loved growing up,” he added.

He talked about his character Heman. “Herman has wide eyes, a childlike quality at this particular moment or rather the birth of his being. In our origin story, audiences can witness his wonder, find his voice, and who he becomes after falling in love. It’s a great story,” he explained.

“Our film is a love letter to the original series and its characters,” he said. “We’re not looking to replace the iconic series but rather to honor the series and share it with those who grew up watching it and also with young audiences who are now discovering our beloved, crazy horror family.”

Regarding his day-to-day inspirations as an actor, Phillips said, “Dive into the character of a new role and make discoveries about the person I represent. It can sometimes be a way to get lost and find out more about yourself at the same time.

As an actor in the digital age, Phillips said, “I hope digital cinema will continue to provide more opportunities to tell a wide range of stories. Doing digital projects often helps give more Indies, including documentaries, a chance to find funding because of the efficiency and professional quality it allows on a small budget.

For young and aspiring actors, he said, “Try to get involved in productions, theater and readings of new material. Look for opportunities in student films and with young filmmakers or create your own projects and look for young teams to support you.

“The more experience you gain, the more confidence you will bring to each new production. Everyone has to start somewhere and often those early relationships evolve into more opportunities,” he added.

On his dream acting partners, he replied, “I can’t think of a specific actor. I think I focus more on the filmmakers that inspire me and there are far too many to list as they vary widely from genre to genre and in many different countries.

Regarding his definition of the word success, Phillips said, “Make a living telling stories; being involved in projects with artists who inspire and challenge me.
