Marvel Studios’ new offering “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” lost a bit more at the Indian box office on Sunday. Usually, movies released on Fridays collect better on Saturdays and even better on Sundays. But this Marvel Studios Benedict Cumberbatch star’s collection had been down since Friday — it dropped on Saturday, then dipped again on Sunday. However, despite this, the film managed to sell tickets worth around Rs 100 crore in the first weekend of its India release, according to initial figures. Meanwhile, this latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film continues to rank fourth among all Hollywood films released in India so far.

Earnings from the first weekend: The net profit of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ was reportedly around Rs 27.5 crore on Friday and around Rs 26 crore on Saturday. On Sunday, these earnings fell a little more as the film could bring in around Rs 25 crore, according to initial figures. It’s not considered a good sign for a movie’s collection to start dwindling within the first three days of its release. The real test for this film comes on Monday, and if the collection continues to dwindle, the film may face some challenges at the Indian box office.

Filmmaker Sam Raimi is back after nearly a decade in the director’s chair. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is the story of Doctor Strange and Wanda Maximoff, two legendary MCU characters. This time, a new character, America Chavez, was also introduced in the MCU. People loved the story of surgeon-turned-sorcerer Stephen Strange from its prequel. Hence, the film had a huge advance booking in India.

Net collection far from Rs 80 crore: ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ may have crossed the 100 crore mark in gross collection on the third day of its release, but the film’s net collection does not even reach Rs 80 crores. Also in this area, the English version was the most profitable of the film. The Hindi version of the film does not seem to have the expected success in India. The film, made on a budget of around Rs 1,500 crore, was not even able to earn Rs 25 crore in the first three days in Hindi.
