The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting held the 68th National Film Awards 2022 on Friday July 22 and declared actors Suriya and Ajay Devgn as best actors for their films Soorarai Pottru and Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior respectively. Aparna Balamurali was named best actress in the female category for her work in “Soorarai Pottru”.

“Soorarai Pottru”, the actors portraying the film’s protagonists won the two best actor awards, is a dramatized portrayal of retired army captain GR Gopinath’s life as the founder of the low-cost airline Air Deccan. Despite a direct OTT release, the film was a big hit, with fans flooding Twitter with rave reviews. Both Suriya and Guneet Monga co-produced the film.

Tanahji was released in January 2020 and quickly captured the hearts of audiences in India and across the world. This is the third time that Ajay Ajay Devgn has won this award.

Journalist Anant Vijay chaired the Best Film Writing category.

Malayalam thriller Ayyappanum Koshiyum won two major awards – KR Sachidanandan, known professionally as Sachy, posthumously won Best Director and Biju Menon won Best Supporting Actor. Sachy died of cardiac arrest in 2020 at the age of 47.

Toolsidas Junior received the award for best Hindi film with a special mention from the jury for child actor Varun Buddhadev.

Madhya Pradesh has won the most film-friendly state award at the National Film Awards. The state also received the award earlier. Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh won Best Film (Special Mention). “The Most Cinema-Friendly Award (Special Mention) goes to Uttarakhand and UP. The Most Cinema-Friendly State of Cinema goes to Madhya Pradesh,” said Neerja Sekhar, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

68th National Film Awards: Judges

A 10-member jury headed by director-producer Vipul Shah met Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Friday morning to submit their report on the 68th National Film Awards.This year there are 50 categories with more of 300 feature films and 150 non-feature films competing for the awards. There are 30 different languages ​​in the movies.

Besides President Shah, the jury members included Cinematographer Dharam Gulati, Nationally acclaimed Bengali actor Sreelekha Mukherjee, Cinematographer GS Bhaskar, A Karthikraaja, VN Aditya, Viji Thampi, Sanjeev Rattan, S Thangadurai and Nishigandha.
