The european film academy revealed the titles of this year’s feature-length documentaries that were recommended for nomination for the 2022 European Film Prize. A committee made up of a wide range of invited European experts chose 13 films to be part of the Academy’s 2022 documentary film selection. The European Film Awards, rewarding the greatest achievements of European cinema, will be awarded on December 10 in Reykjavík. With 15 European countries represented – EU and non-EU – the selection illustrates once again the great diversity of European cinema.
As a reminder, European documentaries are eligible for the European Film Awards which, among other criteria, had their first official screening between June 1, 2021 and May 31, 2022 and have a European director (exceptions can be made by the Council if a director is not to be European “provided he has a European or assimilated refugee status or has lived in Europe and worked in the European film industry for at least five consecutive years”).
In the coming weeks, the 4,400 members of the European Film Academy will start viewing the shortlisted films and after all the films have been finally announced, will vote on the nominations in the European Documentary category. Based on the votes of all members, the nominations will be made public on November 8, during the Seville European Film Festival. Members of the Academy will then vote for the winners who will be announced at the European Film Awards ceremony. The selection – which joins the already announced first part of the Feature Film Selection (read new) – takes into account the Diversity and Inclusion Standards of the European Film Academy (read here).
