The San Diego Film Critics Society generally walks at its own pace and doesn’t necessarily align with other groups during awards season. The 2021 San Diego Film Critics Society nominations are a mix of the two usual suspects – Belfast, Dunesand The power of the dog — and movies that weren’t mentioned as often on other lists — Mass, CODAand In the heights.

If my calculations are correct, the group (of which I am a current member and former president) has broken down our nominations to include 46 different films, with Belfast tops the list with 12 nominations. Dunes picked up new, The power of the dog scored eight and alley of nightmares and Mass tied with seven nominations each. CODA was nominated in six categories and In the heights won five nominations.

The winners will be announced on January 10, 2022.
