The 67th National Film Awards were presented by Vice President Mr. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday, October 25 during the ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi. The 67th National Film Awards were announced in March this year for the best works in 2019, however, the awards show was postponed due to the pandemic.
Iconic Indian film actor Rajinikanth has been awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor bestowed to recognize the contributions of film personalities to the development of Indian cinema and for their distinguished contributions to the medium, its growth and promotion. Manoj Bajpayee and Dhanush shared the Best Actor award, for their performance in the films ‘Bhonsle (Hindi) and ‘Asuran (Tamil)’ respectively. Kangana Ranaut received the best actress award for her performance in the films “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi” and “Panga”. The Malayalam film ‘Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea’ won the award for best feature film and director Priyadarshan and producer Antony Perumbavoor received the awards. The late Sushant Singh Rajput’s latest film, ‘Chhichhore’, also received the Best Hindi Film award.
Southern cinema especially Malayalam and Tamil won top honors at the 67th National Film Awards and Vice President Mr. Venkaiah Naidu acknowledged the same while congratulating the winners. From Rajinikanth receiving a standing ovation to Malayalam cinema winning honours, it was a proud moment for Southern cinema.
