Gangubai Kathiawadi review: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathaiwadi was released in theaters on Friday, February 25, 2022 to mixed reactions from critics and audiences. The film which has been postponed several times due to the pandemic premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival a few days ago.

Film critic and business analyst Taran Adarsh ​​gave the film four stars, calling it “brilliant”. Speaking about the direction, Adarsh ​​wrote, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a magician, succeeds once again”. He further went on to praise that the film’s story is powerful with great moments and brave performances.

“Alia Bhatt outdoes herself, looks ethereal, delivers career best performances, Ajay Devgan lights up the screen every time he appears, packs a solid punch,” Adarsh ​​continued.

Bollywood stars such as Vicky Kaushal, Javed Akhtar and Shashank Khaitan also praised the film and Alia’s performance. “Absolutely bowled over by the sheer brilliance of this film. Loosely based on a chapter from Hussain Zaidi’s book The Mafia Queens of Mumbai, the film shows Gangubai’s journey from being forced into prostitution at an early age to becoming a fierce brothel madam and political leader.
