Don’t Look Up is Netflix’s 3rd most-watched movie in 11 days

Director Adam McKay’s Netflix feature Don’t Look Up, starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, became a huge hit in 11 days.

The Netflix movie Do not seek became the 3rd most watched film on the streaming platform since its release eleven days ago. Do not seek was written and directed by Adam McKay, whose list of works includes Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Half brothers, The big court, and Vice. It also features a star cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Ariana Grande, Jonah Hill and Timothée Chalamet.

Do not seek is a satire on two astronomers, performed by DiCaprio and Lawrence, who attempt to warn the world of a comet that will crash into Earth and destroy the planet. However, no one believes them, even though all they have to do to know the truth is look up into the sky and see it for themselves. Do not seek received mixed reactions from critics who were divided by the film’s message. Some critics found the film to be a scathing and biting satire on denial of science, while others found the message too blunt. He currently owns 56% of Rotten Tomatoes.

Whatever the mixed reactions, Do not seek has become one of the streaming giant’s most viewed films. A chart published by Netflix reveals Do not seek is already the streamer’s third most-watched English film. Netflix reports that people have logged over 263 million hours of watching the latest satire since it was released on the streaming platform 11 days ago.

Netflix Top 10

In just eleven days, Do not seek has beaten other Netflix movies in viewing hours like Irish and Extraction. The two films above Do not seek are Red Notice and Bird nesting box, with over 282 million and 364 million hours. Red Notice has benefited from its prominent cast including Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Gal Gadot. Sandra Bullock’s Driving Bird box was adapted from a well-known novel and has gone viral on social media.

Like Bird box and Red Notice, Do not seek benefits from its star-studded cast as well as solid word of mouth. However, the success of this film may provide a glimpse into the future of mid-budget films. While Do not seek debuted on Netflix, Spider-Man: No Path Home dominated the box office (and still is). Other films like Alley of nightmares, American Underdog, and Matrix resurrections haven’t seen Spider-Man’s popularity. If he had come out as a theater pole, Do not seek could have been a box office bomb that audiences quickly forgot. However, thanks to streaming sites like Netflix, movies like Do not seek are seen by a wider audience thanks to the convenience of home streaming. If anything, Do not seek shows that these types of movies can survive but may be more successful at home than in the cinema.
