Ellipsis Entertainment is preparing six films for 2022

New Delhi: Film production house Ellipsis Entertainment, best known for Neerja and Tumhari Sulu, plans to release around six movies in the coming months, with an eye on the freedom streaming platforms have given to creators, especially the during the last two years of the pandemic. The company’s untitled venture with Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, Ileana D’Cruze and Sendhil Ramamurthy is very likely to premiere on an OTT platform, as are Sharmaji Ki Beti directed by Tahira Kashyap Khuranna and an untitled venture by former advertising executive Sonal Dabral.

The company, which has a multi-film deal with content studio Applause Entertainment, is considering other partnerships and has locked down the cast and budget for three more projects.

“The days when OTT was considered theater’s little cousin are over. Clearly this is where the action is going to be for years to come. Even overseas, all the great work is happening on OTT with obscene amounts of money being invested and A-list stars headlining,” said Atul Kasbekar, co-founder of Ellipsis Entertainment. Space is even more exciting for him, given the lack of censorship. , Kasbekar said. However, there are still a few ambitious projects on the verge of hitting cinemas, even though the feeling is that people only go to the cinema to watch large-scale shows. and the digital premiere was dwindling,” said Kasbekar whose latest release Lapeta Buckle starring Taapsee Pannu has started streaming on Netflix, and the US platform hopes to gain global acceptance like some Asian stories recently.

Certainly the covid-19 pandemic has changed the way people consume content and the benchmarks have gotten higher, with people expecting a lot more, Kasbekar said. “A lot of the scripts we had greenlit started to feel outdated and we had to either scrap them altogether or revise them. The pandemic has taught us all that there are no hard and fast rules, you have to be prepared to adapt and stay on your toes,” Kasbekar said.
