Jersey Box Office Collection Day 1: Shahid Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur’s film earns Rs 4 crore | Hindi Movie News

Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur may deserve praise for their roles in ‘Jersey’, but the film has had a low collection of opening days. Gowtam Tinnanuri’s film fetched around Rs 4 crore nett and the film’s collections did not jump much in the evening, boxofficeindia reports. ‘Jersey’ could see some growth on day two.

Post-pandemic, it seems audiences only flock to theaters for big-budget movies that saw decent pitches initially, even if the movie didn’t do too well later on. It has been a struggle for medium and low budget films which have barely managed to reach the net mark of Rs 5 crore. The silver lining to “Jersey” is that the film has already recouped its costs through satellite and music rights, as is the case with more recent releases.

The film received positive responses. Shahid Kapoor’s fans also praised his performance in the sports drama. Director Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also directed the original, received a standing ovation after a screening. Shahid Kapoor shared a video of the same on social media and wrote, “The director. The man. The captain of the ship. So proud of you. You deserve all this love. And more. (sic)”

Even Southern star Nani praised Shahid after watching Hindi version of Telugu film ‘Jersey’. “Watched #Jersey and @Gowtam19 knock it out of the park again. What a performance and what a heart. #Shahidkapoor @Mrunal0801
