Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday stars liger hit theaters on August 25. The film was heavily promoted for over a month in around 17 cities. Vijay Deverakonda’s massive promotions and fandom paid off on its opening day as it recorded big numbers. However, the negative reviews had an impact on the film.

While addressing the film’s box office failure, Liger’s producer, Charmme Kaur, told the Free Press Journal, “People have access to better content at the click of a button just by sitting at home. The whole family can watch the big budget movies on TV, and until you really get them excited, they won’t come to the cinema.”

She added, “But that’s not the case in Bollywood. In August, three Telugu films – Bimbisara, Sita Ramam and Karthikeya 2 – performed phenomenally, making Rs. 150-170 crores. C happened in the same country. It’s hard to understand because it doesn’t mean that people in the South are crazy about movies. It’s a scary and depressing situation.

Charmme further mentioned how the release delays affected the film’s box office performance and said, “We started Liger’s first schedule in January 2020, we met Karan Johar in 2019 and it came out in 2022. We held back from coming to theaters for three years because we were extremely convinced that Liger was a theatrical release, regardless of first and second lockdowns, third wave or open theaters at 50% occupancy . It was our responsibility to let other great films, such as RRR and Pushpa: The Rise, come out first. Then we lost the summer and the rain came, so we had to go out on August 25th. We faced constant obstacles, but we never gave up.

Meanwhile, according to Andhraboxoffice report, the movie registered a massive drop in its debut weekend, earning a total of Rs 7.5 crore on Day 3 and around Rs 5.50 crore on Day 4 in rooms. The film now stands on a total of Rs 43.2 crores worldwide.
