Maamanithan wins Best Asian Film at the Tokyo Film Awards | Tamil Cinema News

Director Seenu Ramasamy’s critically acclaimed artist “Maamanithan”, starring actors Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie in the lead, was released earlier in June and received a good response from fans and audiences. Now, the film won a gold medal at the Tokyo Film Awards this year.

“Maamanithan” won gold in the Best Asian Film category, while Takahiro Kawabe’s “Love Song at 5 pm” won silver and Mart Bira’s “Nomadic Doctor” took bronze.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, director Seenu Ramasamy said, “Happy to share that our feature film ‘Maamanithan’ has won (at) Tokyo Film Awards 2022. Thanks to producer Yuvan Shankar Raja.”

Vijay Sethupathi plays a motorist who goes through a serious identity crisis in this family drama. The story of “Maamanithan” is about a simple man who aspires to provide a good education for his children by getting them admitted to a private school. To increase his income, he makes a deal with a real estate developer and gets ripped off. The problems he faces are the subject of the film.

Gayathrie, who teamed up with Vijay Sethupathi in the film Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom plays the female lead. The rest of the film’s star cast includes KPAC Lalitha, Guru Somasundaram, Shaji Chen, and Jewel Mary. Anikha of “Viswasam” fame is also a part of the film. The film is jointly produced by Yuvan Shankar Raja and K Productions.
