Well, Furuya for some reason left Seiya about 20 years ago for Seiya’s Eggs to come back to Omega, so I don’t know what the reason is.

Seiya in Omega is 38-39, and Omega was a bit of a fanservice show, anyway.

Also, Furuya sounds a bit more old school and epic than Morita.

As for Amuro, it actually makes no sense that they decided to keep Furuya for his 15th birthday, given that Furuya is now 68.

Few voice actors retain their roles for so long.

Don’t think he’s gone. All of the Bronze Saints were replaced at once. Probably a question of budget but who knows.

We’ll probably never know the full and accurate story, but the one that’s usually told is that Masami Kurumada felt that everyone except Furuya had aged too much, after hearing them in the movie Hades Sanctuary & the Heaven Chapter. Furuya didn’t want to go on without the rest, so he was recast as well, and his ex-wife Mami Koyama also left in solidarity with them, though Furuya and Koyama would return for Seiya Omega years later.

To be fair… They did it mostly at any age. Furuya somehow continues to look relatively ageless to this day, but the rest of the Bronze Saints have definitely shown their age in the Sanctuary of Hades. Ryo Horikawa was probably second best at trying to hide his age, but his Shun still couldn’t hide it completely.

Either way, if Cucuruz Doan Island is indeed Yas’ latest Gundam production, then at least it’s a good way out. The infamous episode he blames himself for, since he simply outsourced the animation in 1979, ends up being well done by him.

Yas said that too about the OVA for The Origin! I’d like him to do a full manga adaptation before he permanently bends the director’s chair.

As long as he’s proud of his work, I can understand wanting to go out on a high with one last classic MSG production.

Furuya and Ikeda will probably play Amuro and Char for as long as they physically can, one way or another.

He already said in Gundam Ace that it won’t happen:

Quote:

In terms of the cast, while the White Base team will be featured, everyone has been revamped for The Origin except for Amuro and Kai. This was done in anticipation of the main story of the One Year War arc, but this adaptation is no longer happening. For this reason, there were hardly any lines, despite this bold decision that was made. I always regretted that, but I’m glad Doan was born, so it didn’t end up being ruined. I think there’s a refreshing mix of new and old, with Furuya playing the lead role.

Plus, it was a flop on theaters all around.

Similarly, Toru Furuya, the voice of Mobile Suit Gundam protagonist Amuro Ray, also said in the event that the film “might be the last time I voice a 15-year-old Amuro in a movie.”

Key word: Cinema. The door is still open for other work. Secretly, Sunrise is waiting for Furuya and Ikeda to kick the bucket before remaking the original for the TV anime. Fans won’t be able to complain when they are replaced. I am kidding.
