A list of top 10 Indian films of all time is declared by the Indian Section of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI).
The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) has conducted a poll to determine the top 10 films in the history of Indian cinema. The list was dominated by Pather Panchaliwhich marked the directorial debut of Satyajit Ray.
Released in 1955, Pather Panchali was based on Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay Bengali’s 1929 novel of the same name.
Pather Panchali was the first film in Ray’s Apu trilogy. It was followed by Apparajito (released in 1955) and Apur Sansar (released in 1959).
According to reports, the voting for the best Indian films of all time was held in secret. In the poll, 30 members of FIPRESCI-India voted with confidence, and the list was determined by the maximum number of votes in favor of the films.
According to the list, Meghe Dhaka Tara (1960), directed by Ritwik Ghatak ranked second in the list. Bhuvan Shome, a 1969 Hindi drama by Mrinal Sen, came third. It was followed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s 1981 Malayalam film Ellippathayam who placed fourth. 1977 movie Ghatashraddha by Girish Kasaravalli was in fifth position.
1973 film by M. S. Sathyu Garm Hava and the 1964 film by Satyajit Ray Charulata were ranked sixth and seventh. The eighth, ninth and tenth spots in the list were taken by the 1974 Hindi film Ankur by Shyam Benegal, the 1954 Hindi film pyaasa by Guru Dutt and the 1975 Hindi film Sholaydirected by Ramesh Sippy.

The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI, short for Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique) was founded in 1930. It is an association of national organizations of professional film critics and film journalists from around the world. for “the promotion and development of film culture”. and for the protection of professional interests.
It awards prizes at film festivals like Vienna International Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Warsaw Film Festival and International Film Festival of Kerala movie.
