“Local Utpaat,” the new comedy film from “Local Kung Fu” and Heavy Budget team, got an amazing response when it premiered in Guwahati on May 12.
The film’s marketing slogan was “Sobigriholoi ahibo/Petor bixor tablet anibo/May 13 tareekhe/Local Utpaat hobo” (Come to the cinema, bring stomachache tablets, May 13 as we liberate Local Utpaat).
The team completely delivered on that promise as the audience laughed throughout the premiere, with some of the loudest laughs coming from a scene involving an iPhone, a comedy-horror moment, and the climax, which was a riot of comedy and action laughter.
Bibhash Sinha, famous for playing Tansen in local Kung Fu, has scene-stealing “English” dialogue.
Director Kenny Deori Basumatary said most of the credit goes to his cast and crew for making Local Utpaat in such a cooperative spirit. “I’m very lucky to be surrounded by very talented and helpful friends and family members,” he said. He also thanked the more than 1,270 people who contributed their hard-earned money when crowdfunding the film. Even Bollywood action star Vidyut Jammwal made a significant contribution, he said.
People all praised the film’s comedy and fast pace. “It’s one of the best, if not the best of the team. I was expecting a riot of laughs and this movie lives up to my expectations 200%. Truly a complete comedy from an incredibly creative team. A must-see in theaters,” one of the viewers said during the premiere broadcast.
When asked about the film’s release on OTT, Kenny said, “We haven’t made a final decision on that yet. We hope to get a good offer. He added that if Local Utpaat recoups their investment, then they will do Local Kung Fu 3 next. “But for that, people have to watch movies in movie theaters. Because currently, it is the only way for Assamese films to recover their investment.
