Rebel Wilson to host the 2022 Bafta Film Awards at the Royal Albert Hall | Baftas 2022

Rebel Wilson will host the 2022 Bafta film awards, it has been announced.

The Australian actor, who has starred in hits like Bridesmaids, Pitch Perfect and Jojo Rabbit, will lead the event at the Royal Albert Hall on March 13 after impressing organizers with comedy bits from previous ceremonies.

Amanda Berry, Managing Director of Bafta, said: “Rebel has stolen the show at several previous film awards, and we are extremely pleased to see her bring her fantastic charisma and humor to the entire show.”

Wilson responded with a statement in which she referenced a number of hot issues, including the controversy over her recent weight loss. She said, “It’s going to be so much fun! I don’t want to put pressure on it – I know I’m not going to be funny because I’m not fat anymore. And besides, I’m not going to “sweat” with nerves because I have a particular medical condition where I can’t sweat…or offend people because of my adorable Aussie accent.

She added: “So basically I’ll just be there to hang out with Dame Judi Dench and together we’ll both try to bond with Daniel Craig. And yeah, I mean ‘bond’. This show will be a celebration of the anniversary of some important British film franchises such as Harry Potter and not like Cats. Everyone will love it I’m sure!

The 2021 edition, hosted by Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary, took place at the Royal Albert Hall without an audience and under conditions of social distancing. The format for the 2022 awards has yet to be officially announced, but a spokesperson said that circumstances permitting, the current plan is for an “in-person event” with an audience.

Bafta will also have to compete with the Critics Choice Awards, which recently announced that he had postponed his Los Angeles-based event to the same night as the Baftasresulting in potential scheduling conflicts for a number of film industry personalities likely to be nominated for both.
