Samrat Prithviraj Box Office Collection: Akshay Kumar’s Film Hits Over ₹39cr In Its First Weekend

Akshay Kumar’s star ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ – released last week – with a better opening than most other recently released Hindi films is now showing lukewarm response from audiences and critics. The historical action drama garnered over 39 crores at the domestic box office in its first weekend. He won 10.70 cr on opening day.

Samrat Prithviraj, directed by acclaimed writer-filmmaker Chandraprakash Dwivedi and produced by Yash Raj Films, also features Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood continued to disappoint in its opening weekend.

The film also marks the acting debut of Miss World 2017 Manushi Chillar.

The landmark action film, released on June 3 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, reported 10.70 cr on opening day.

Yash Raj Films in a statement said that the historical drama “Samrat Prithviraj” which was made on a budget of 175 crore, collected 10.70 crores on day one. Saturday and Sunday, the film made a business of 12.60 crores and 16.10 crore at the box office, bringing its three-day total to Net 39.40 crore, added Yash Raj Films.

Director Chandraprakash Dwivedi said he was pleased with the response to the film.

Dwivedi in a statement said, “We have always believed that a movie like Samrat Prithviraj will make every Indian proud and I hope this strong weekend will bring more and more people to come to the theaters and watch the Life of India’s Glorious Historic Hero Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan on the Big Screen We tried to create a visual spectacle worthy of the mighty king’s heroism and I’m happy with how the film’s debut did at the box office .

The film is based on the life of Rajput King Prithviraj Chauhan. In the film, Akshay Kumar plays the role of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan and Manushi Chillar plays the role of Princess Sanyogita, daughter of Jaichand, the King of Kannauj.

The film was made tax-free in BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
