, one of the sensations of the year after its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes, and already a big winner at other film festivals, such as Sarajevo and Seville. Director of Photography Christine Fournier and composers Nils Petter Molvaer and Peter Brotzmann won awards in their respective fields. The pricing statement for the former highlights how “the cinematography in great freedom draws the viewer into the intimacy of the prison cell, while suggesting openness and freedom of spirit”, while for the latter he emphasizes that “the sparse and audacious notation of great freedom takes you through decades, places and the confines of a rare cinematic experience interfaced with his music. It’s an elegant yet thought-provoking celebration of free improvisation and insurrection; jazz, resilience and solidarity.”

Curiously, the films premiering in this year’s Un Certain Regard section make up the bulk of the list of winners. The big winner of the section, Kira Kovalenkoit is Unclench fists [+see also:
