The New York Film Critics Circle will hold its annual gala dinner on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at TAO Downtown. Jordan Hoffman will serve as NYFCC’s 2022 chairman and Stephen Garrett will continue as group chief executive.
“Man plans and God laughs, as the old saying goes, but I am confident that our 2023 ceremony will take place both in person and in January, where it belongs, for the first time since 2020,” said Hoffman said. “I am also confident that we will honor an array of innovative, enriching and thought-provoking films and performances. That’s what this band has always done, no matter the odds.
Each year, the organization meets to vote on the calendar year’s film awards, among the first of the major groups to announce its winners. Often, NYFCC picks lead the way into awards season, while other times their picks are proudly independent of other organizations. The group votes on winners in December, often close to National Board of Review winners, and is an early indicator of award favorites. They have not yet set the date for the vote, but the band’s awards dinner in early January is also seen as kicking off a new year of glamorous New York events.
